Welcome to ELA and Media Arts in Room 150, FAM!

Hey y'all!

I am so, so excited to be your 8th grade ELA teacher at Thomas Starr King!

I grew up in Huntsville, AL and moved to Tucson, AZ when I was 13, but I started my journey teaching high school English in Yuma, AZ (birthplace of the American civil rights activist, Cesar Chavez), after graduating from the University of Arizona (Go Wildcats!). I taught in Yuma for three HOT years before deciding to attend graduate school for a MFA in writing.

I moved to San Francisco to attend USF in 2014 and wrote my little heart out in my Tenderloin studio apartment while also teaching high school in Oakland and San Francisco. After graduating at the end of 2016 and getting our fill of city life, my now husband and I jumped on the opportunity to move to sunny Los Angeles.

I started teaching at a Catholic school in the valley, which I loved very much, but the daily drive was a grind. I had been watching (not creepy, I swear) TSK and was so impressed by what I saw - a large and diverse student body, a campus with green space, school uniforms, and a magnet program, not to mention, a seven minute walk from my bungalow! Major shout out to the admin at King for hiring me! I am now entering my fourth year at King and tenth year teaching.

I love being apart of our Los Feliz/Silver Lake community partially because I can walk to all my favorite places- Spitz, the Greek, Maru, Los Feliz theater, and Skylight bookstore. I also love it because occasionally I see y'all out, too. If you ever see me, don't be shy! My husband and I love saying saying hello. You might even get lucky and catch us when we are out with one of our AMAZING foster dogs.

Please check out my links for all the exciting goodies you need to be successful. I am always here too, whether in person or digitally, so send me an email [email protected], or send me a message on Schoology.

Peace and one love,
Ms. Kelsey Rea Ahlmark, MFA
