6th Grade Students Compete in MathCounts Competition

The students, a group of 6th graders from Mr. Piumarta, Ms. Williams and Mr. Aleman's math classes, went against 42 other schools and over 200 students, from all over the Los Angeles county and Santa Monica. They trained during lunch time for a whole semester to prepare for the competition. The competition was sponsored by Northrop Grumman, which also provided the tournament's space at their headquarters in Redondo Beach. The name of the mathletes who competed are Noah, LuQi, Lily, Lila, Henry, Maya, Jonathan, Jacob, and Andy. Noah, a student in Mr. Piumarta's math class, won the Countdown Round against the top 10 individual mathletes. Kudos, as well, to all 40+ students from all three magnets who were members of the MathCounts club, sponsored by Mr. Piumarta and Mr. Aleman. A special thanks to the mathelete's families, all 6th grade Math teachers, our wonderful school's administrators and office staff for their support in preparation for this event.
