Language Arts/English (Period 1)

In 6th grade Language Arts we will work on several skills over the course of the school year. We will work on improving Reading and Writing skills. Furthermore, you will read and write several types of writing, both fiction and nonfiction.

Outside of school, you will be expected to continue improving your reading by reading at least 20 minutes every day at home. Don’t worry; our school library is quite large, and our school librarian is a very nice, knowledgeable woman named Mrs. Baranich!

You will explore four types of writing:
• Narrative Writing: Writing to tell a story
• Expository Writing: Writing to inform
• Response to Literature Writing: Writing to interpret literature
• Persuasive Writing: Writing to persuade
