Hello T.S. King Family,

My name is William Page and I was born in Los Angeles, CA in 1977. I am the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools Instructional Coach. I attended Daniel Murphy Catholic High School, and graduated from San Francisco State University with a B.A. in English Literature and Linguistics. My time before graduation included plenty of mountain biking, volleyball playing, hiking, and domestic and international travel.

Instead of going immediately into the classroom, I decided to take some time away from education. While still in San Francisco, I worked with Fenton Communications, a public relations firm specializing in progressive change in societal, environmental, and international matters. I then worked in Tucson, Arizona for United Way. While with the organization I focused on matters of public advocacy, working with local leaders in advocating for minority membership on the Board of Directors of non-profit organizations in Tucson and Southern Arizona.

I decided it was time for me to come back to Los Angeles in 2003. My intention was to follow my life-long dream of entering education. Unfortunately, the economy in California limited the opportunities in education. Instead, I went into business with a long-time friend. We opened a niche grocery store, specializing in food for diabetics, people with specific food allergies, and folks looking to use diet as a means of enhancing their personal health. While running a business was challenging and fun, I did not find gratification in my day-to-day work.

We sold the store in early 2007, and I joined LAUSD's District Intern Program, completing my teaching credential while working at Le Conte Middle School. While at Le Conte I taught Math, Science, Social Studies, and English. I continued my career at John Liechty Middle School as a Sixth and Seventh Grade Mathematics, Health and Science teacher. Over the past six years I have worked in King's Gifted and Environmental STEAM Magnets. The 2019-2020 marks the first of my career out of the classroom. I look forward to supporting King's teachers and your students as we begin the VILs program.

I have been married for thirteen years. My wife, Johanna, is a Field Biologist. Through her I have developed a love for birdwatching, exploration of native ecosystems, and continued travel. We have a daughter, named Samara. The three of us live in Pasadena, with our cat (Millie) and our two tortoises (Biggie and Tupac). I am a huge fan of my morning smoothie, reading historical biographies, the L.A. Clippers, camping, spending time with friends and family, and seeing students achieve their goals.

If you would like to contact me, I can be reached at [email protected], or at the school: (323) 644-6700.

Thank you,

Mr. William Page
