PE-Ultimate Frisbee

Basics:  Bernoulli effect:  The disc flies when spin is applied to it, creating a change in pressure as the air passes over and under the disc, causing it to rise.  What does this mean?  To make the disc fly like magic, one must spin it well!

GRIPS:

Standard:

Hold as shown with the thumb on top and the index finger along or under the rim.  The middle finger may be extended toward the center with the fourth and little finger curled against the back rim

Power:

Thumb on top and the remaining fingers curled underneath the rim

THROWS:

Backhand-standard disc throw:

Cues:

1-turn to the side, athletic stance

2-roll disc toward your body-winding the arm and wrist

3-keep your hand flat

4-extend arm and “flick” your wrist so that it unwinds, hand pointed toward the target

Side arm-

1-Hold the disc with two fingers in the underside and thumb on top

2-cock wrist backward

3-snap disc forward until released, flicking wrist forward and following through

CATCHING::

Pancake:

A two-handed catch with the disc pancaked with one hand on top and the other on the bottom

Alligator:

Fingers on top of the disc and thumb below if catch is above the waist.  Thumb on top and fingers below if the catch is below the waist
