My name is Musetta Malone. I am the Extended Learning Academy Assistant Principal. I am in charge of the Intervention programs at King. I work with the Extended Learning Academy counselor, Robert Martinez. The Extended Learning Academy office is located directly across from the main office. Intersession is one of our Intervention programs. Intersession is offered to students who are off track who need remedial classes in Mathematics or Language Arts. Students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grade who are failing Mathematics or Language Arts will receive an application from their track counselor that they must sign and return to the counselor or the ELA office. The Intersession classes are for 4 weeks. Students in the 8th grade attend Intersession from 7:30 – 11:45. Students in the 6th and 7th grade attend Intersession from 12:15 – 4:30.

Saturday School is our year round Intervention program for students. Students attend Saturday sessions of 7 or 8 weeks. The time for the Saturday classes are, 8:00 – 12:05 for the 8 week sessions and from 8:00 – 12:37 for the 7 week sessions. Students receive assistance in Mathematics, Language Arts or English as a Second Language class based on their CST scores or parent request. On Saturday we also have an ESL class for parents from 8:00 - 11: 30. Childcare is provided for the children of the parents attending the ERL classes.

Eighth grade students who attend the required number of hours on Saturday receive credits towards culmination. Eighth grade students also receive credits for culmination by attending and passing their Intersession classes. Please speak to the track counselor if you need clarification about your child’s participation in the culmination ceremony.

Students may also attend our after school program, LACER. The program meets everyday from 3:19 – 6:00. On Tuesday LACER meets from 1:37 – 5:00. Students are able to participate in lots of activities including drill team, hip-hop team, basketball, math lab, homework club and cooking club to name a few. Students and their parents are required to complete an application and return it to the LACER office located at the top of the girl’s gym.

We look forward to working with you this year.
