OUR PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE FOR MAY 2008

Dear King Parents,

As we approach the end of the 2007-2008 school year, I ask that you to encourage your child to attend school on a daily basis. Motivate them to study hard, try their best and encourage them to have respect for everything they do. Our staff is dedicated to ensuring the success of all our students. This school year we have implemented strategies that will better meet the needs of all our students and help improve academic achievement. Some of the new strategies and/or programs include
  • CHAMPS a proactive approach to classroom management
  • Achievement Solutions protocol that allows teachers to collaboratively plan lessons and assess students’ work
  • Think Pair Share to allow students time to think, discuss with a partner, and then share with the class their thoughts and/or solutions to a question
  • Reference Walls to teach the academic language required by each content area and the California Standards Test
  • Cooperative Learning Strategies that address the needs of all of our students.
Remember the “Triangle of Success” is composed of Teachers, Parents and students. Teachers we will continue to address the California State Standards in their daily lessons and implement strategies that will help all students succeed. As parents I ask that you continue to monitor you child’s progress, participate in school activities and parent workshops. Together with your support, our students will succeed.

A & B Track students will take the California Standards Test (CST) May 27, 2008 – June 9, 2008. The CST is composed of a series of assessments on academic content standards in specific areas such as English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Our standards-based instructional program is designed to prepare our students to demonstrate mastery of these content standards. In order to help students prepare for the tests, released test items are now available form the prior years’ CST administrations at www.cde.ca.gov.

Please help us emphasize the importance of doing well on the state assessments by ensuring that your child gets plenty of sleep, eats a good breakfast, and puts forth his or her best effort on all of the tests. Thank you for your help.
