PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE NOVEMBER 2007

Dear King Parents,

On Wednesday, November 7 we will have a group of 100 parents graduating from a 9-week series of workshops presented by the Parent Institute for Quality Education. I would like to congratulate these parents for their hard work and participation. Parent involvement is key to the academic success of our students. Please continue to support our students by checking their academic planners, monitoring their daily work, and engaging them in conversations about their work. Three questions you might consider asking your child are:  What did you learn today that you did not know yesterday?  What was the best part of your day and why?  What was the worst part of your day and why?

Our teachers and staff are also working hard to address academic achievement. Our Tuesday Instructional Focus Time is used to read and discuss research-based strategies for school-wide implementation. Vertical Teams and Departments continue to meet to select strategies to implement by grade-level and department. Strategies selected include Think, Pair, Share, where students are allowed time to think, discuss with a partner, and then share with the class their thoughts and/or solutions to a question presented by the teacher and Reference Walls to teach the academic language required by each content area and the California Standards Test. Teachers will post the vocabulary required for success in each of the content areas (English, Math, Science, Social Studies) in their classrooms to help improve student achievement. Graphic Organizers help students organize ideas and communicate more effectively.  Using graphic organizers in all content areas will empower our students to master subject matter at a faster rate.

Please join us for our 4th Annual Beautification Day on Saturday, November 17, 2007, from 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. We encourage parents to attend this event with their child. Students who wish to participate will be asked to return a trip slip by Friday, November 9. We will clean, trim and plant as a joint effort to beautify our campus.
