DECEMBER 2006 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear King Parents,

We are all part of the team to support our students. The triangle of success has 3 components, the students, who are the focus of our work, the teachers and parents. Together we work for our children’s academic learning and success.

Our job has many facets:
  • Teachers teaching to the California State Content Standards
  • Students learning to the best of their ability, academically and cooperatively
  • Parents monitoring their child’s daily work and progress.
With all components of the team working to their full capacity, our students will promote, continue to learn, grow, and matriculate to higher learning institutes.  Please join us whenever we have parent workshops, parent events and team gatherings so we can continue to support our students in a multitude of ways.

The following are some chunks of information that I provided to parents at various workshops:

Reading the Report Cards:
Congratulate your child for every /, A, B, C, S or E. Discuss areas for improvement: Have your child write a reason for every D, F or U beginning with “I………”  Remember report cards are mailed every 4 weeks.

Calculating Course Credits:
Your child has 6 classes every semester. For every A, B, C, or D your child earns on each semester final report card, he receives 5 credits. There are 30 credits possible every semester.  The goal is 55+ credits!  Remember F’s earn 0 credits.

Calculating Grade Point Averages (GPA):
Grade points are based on letter grades. A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0.  Your child has 6 classes every semester.  Add the grade points earned and divide by 6 to get your child’s GPA.

Please join us for our next set of Parent Workshops on “Raising Children In Troubled Times” beginning Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at 2:00 p.m.  I will be facilitating our first workshop.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK TOGETHER TO PROVIDE THE BEST LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AT SCHOOL AND AT HOME.

Respectfully,
Charlene Hirotsu, Principal
