NOVEMBER 2006 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear King Parents,

Congratulations to our parents who participated and culminated from the Parent Institute for Quality Education 9-week workshop.  I am very proud of all of our 170 parents.  We had two sessions, one in the morning and one in the evening.  Mr. Philip Naimo, our Local District 4 Director of Middle Schools, was the guest speaker at the Culmination Ceremony held on Wednesday, November 1, 2006.

On Monday, October 23, I was proud to represent Local District 4 and Thomas Starr King Middle School along with our Mathematics Coach, Tomoko Brooks, on the KLCS Channel 58, Conversations with Roy Romer. I was able to share and discuss the accomplishments of our mathematics department, in particular, the 7% growth of students scoring proficient or advanced in our 7th grade mathematics and the 4% growth in our Algebra scores. Our entire staff works compassionately and collaboratively in planning the implementation of their lessons to produce the best outcome in our students’ learning.  Please join us in supporting our children by monitoring their daily work, engaging in conversations about their work, and working as a team with our staff.  Please be conscious of the “red zone” in front of our school and the entrances and exits as you drop off or pick-up your child from school.

We are completing the first half of the school year for our Track C students. 55+ credits is the goal for the year!  Please calculate the number of credits earned with your child.  If you need assistance, please contact your child’s grade level counselor at (323) 664-1176 ext 115.

Please join us for our 3rd Annual Beautification Day on Saturday, November 4, 2006, from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon, followed by a raffle for all participants.  We will clean, trim, and plant as a joint effort to beautify our campus.  We are proud of King Middle School.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK TOGETHER TO PROVIDE THE BEST
LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AT SCHOOL AND AT HOME

Respectfully,
Charlene Hirotsu
