WRITING INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES:  IMPROVING CLASSROOM PERFORMANCE

Are you confident that your students will be able to demonstrate mastery of the State Standards on the district Performance Assignments? Most educators admit that standards and instructional objectives are important but can confuse the two concepts. Simply posting the State Standards in the room using them as daily instructional objective(s), does not address the principal of Clear Expectations. In practice, most instructional objectives are too general or vaguely stated.

In this workshop, teachers will acquire the knowledge and skills to write instructional objectives that are specific, behavioral and measurable to improve teacher and student performance. Using the district teacher guides for instruction and/or the State Standards, teachers working with content area colleagues will be able to write instructional objectives that are specific, behavioral, and measurable to be implemented in their actual instructional program.
Participants must bring instructional guides and content standards for their discipline.

Each participant will receive a set of content standards charts for one course/grade level paid for by the LAUSD/UTLA Peer Assistance and Review Program (approximate value of $50). This offer is based on availability of product.

The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, March 25, 2006. This half-day workshop will be held at the Wilshire Plaza-UTLA Building, 3303 Wilshire Blvd. Suite 400 on the 4th floor, in Los Angeles (enter parking structure from Berendo). Sign in begins at 7:30 AM. Workshop begins at 8:00 AM and concludes at 12 noon.

Full participation is required. Doors will close at 8:00 am to ensure a prompt session. No late entries will be allowed. An attendance verification form will be issued. The registration fee for this workshop ($75 per person) will be paid for by the Peer Assistance and Review Program. This workshop will be limited to 35 participants.
