FRIENDS OF KING
WORKING TOGETHER TO GET THE JOB DONE

SPORTS BOTTLE
Friends of King has a new BPA free, aluminum, limited edition, sports water bottle for sale at $8 each. This bottle will raise money for our school, lessen our dependence on plastic one time use water bottles and improve our schools image. This bottle is very hip. Students and Parents can purchase this bottle by calling Tomas O’Grady at 323 644 1629 or email at [email protected] or going to www.friendsofking.org.

JOG-A-THON
Our first big fundraiser in association with the P.E. department was the Jog-a-thon on May 21st (12.45PM), in the P.E field. Students brought in almost $10,000. After expenses, we made a profit of close to $7,500. This is not a typo. Thank you to all of the students who participated. Thank you to all of you who supported this fundraiser. Proceeds will go to purchasing equipment for the P.E. department.

SUMMER BEAUTIFICATION
We plan a massive beautification of the school this summer, through planting and other improvements. We need parent and student volunteers to sign up to help. Call Tomas at (323) 644 1629.

OTHER NEWS
Farm King had a booth at the Silver Lake Jubilee fair on Saturday May 22nd and Sunday May 23rd. Thank you to teacher Annemarie Ralph and her students for volunteering. A special thanks to parent Kiki Crawford. She and her family are leaving the state. Kiki has given so much to King Middle School this year. It is a better place because of her.

THE JOY OF SPELLING!

The last Sixth Grade Spelling Bee of this school year was held on May 19, 2010 at noon in the Thomas Starr King Middle School Library. The three winners this for this year-end round were: 1st – Ava Chamberlai 2nd – Devon Rosen 3rd – Jessica Decena
Congratulations to all the eager and talented students who participated. Their good sportsmanship and intensity were obvious to all. Thanks to Ms. DeMunda for bringing her class to the library to witness the Bee. Next time we hope more teachers will participate and bring their 6th and/or 7th grade classes to be an audience for this event. The Spelling Bees will resume in the Fall of 2010. Both Sixth and Seventh grades will participate. Word Lists will be posted online for each grade. We urge students to practice during the summer months by reading newspapers, magazines, books. advertisements – everything!
