OUR PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE FOR DECEMBER 2009

Principal’s Message

Dear King Parents,

I hope that you had a restful and enjoyable Thanksgiving Holiday. With the winter holidays upon us, we realize that your children may find it increasingly difficult to focus on their schoolwork. In order to ensure their success, we ask for your support in keeping your children focused on academics by doing the following:

1.    Monitoring and encouraging your children to use their Academic Planners.  All tests, quizzes, and assignments should be recorded in them, along with due dates and teacher comments.

2.   Providing a quiet place in which to do homework.

3.   Asking what they learned in school, and for them to explain their assignments to you.  This will reinforce what the teachers have taught.

4.   Ensuring that children attend school every day.  Now that we are on a Traditional Calendar, the winter recess is three weeks, beginning on December 21st, and ending when school reopens on January 11th. Please avoid taking any vacations outside of this window.

With parents, teachers, and staff working as a team, our students will continue to improve and achieve.

On Saturday, November 7th, we held our Annual Beautification Day. Parents, students, staff and community volunteers planted, painted, weeded, cleaned and beautified our campus.  A special thank you to Mr. Ramirez, Mr. O’Grady, and the Leadership class for coordinating our efforts, and to all of those who participated in the continued “greening” of King.

As you may know, my husband and I welcomed our first baby – a girl – on November 30th, and I will be on maternity leave for the next several weeks.  During my leave, the Interim Principal will be Ms. Jeanne Yamamoto, a highly qualified, experienced, retired administrator.  I have the utmost confidence in Ms. Yamamoto and the rest of the King team to continue to provide a safe and clean campus and an excellent education in my absence.  Please continue to join them for Coffee with the Principal every 1st Tuesday of the month.  This is a great opportunity to keep informed, receive a school update and meet our staff and other parents.

I look forward to seeing all of you when I return in the spring!
