This is my third year as the Magnet Coordinator, and my 11th year at King Middle School. My first five years I was a 6th grade Math and Science teacher, working with students of all levels, including ESL and Honors. During this time my adjunct duties included Science Lead Teacher and School for Advanced Studies Coordinator. The following two years I was the Technology Coach, helping integrate the Apple 1 to 1 program in 6th grade classes, as well as rolling out the use of laptop carts in the Departments. Before my current position, I was fortunate enough to go back in the classroom and help pilot the first year of the Environmental Studies Magnet Program, once again as a 6th grade Math and Science teacher. My Bachelors is in Psychology and Business Administration and I have a Masters in Educational Administration.
King has evolved so much over the last 10 years, including a growth of over 200 API points in the CSTs! Our API is currently 843!!! I believe part of the reason we have been so successful is the increased parent and community involvement. Another reason is our school structure – we are set up as three magnets, where a core team of teachers is able to provide a personalized learning environment for each student.
I’M PROUD TO BE A KING LION, and now that we are a full-school magnet, we are able to expand our boundaries and offer quality education to any student within LAUSD.
